According to the data from the Ericsson report, the total monthly mobile traffic reached 93 Eb (1 exabyte is equal to 1.048 million TB), and by 2027 one user will account for 40 GB of traffic per month, writes Kommersant.
The Mobility Report highlights the state of the mobile internet market. Here are some conclusions:
- Traffic consumption increased by 10% in just one quarter – from the fourth quarter of 2021 to the first quarter of 2022.
- Compared to the first quarter of 2020, the volume of mobile traffic was 100%, i.e. in two years it doubled. The reason is the explosive growth of interest in watching video content, and 69% of traffic consumed is video.
- In 2017, a person accounted for 2.6 GB of mobile traffic per month, by the end of 2022 the figure is expected to be 15 GB, and by 2027 – 39.7 GB.
- 5G networks have become the fastest growing in history and are expected to cover 75% of the world’s population in 5 years.
The report also highlights concerns about overloading networks and possible outages, as the infrastructure may simply not be able to handle user demand. Such a situation may occur if new network technologies are not implemented in time and the necessary capacities are not created. And there may be problems with this, because Today there is a shortage of equipment and available frequencies.
