According to the agency “Avtostat”, this figure increased by 65% for the period from January to May this year compared to similar data in 2021. And in the leaders of purchases – Tesla Model Y.
In five months of 2022, 1,119 new electric cars were purchased in Russia. The distribution by brands in the top 5 looks like this:
- Tesla Model Y – 248 cars.
- Tesla Model 3 – 211 cars.
- Porsche Taycan – 131 cars.
- Audi E-Tron – 88 cars.
- Audi E-Tron Sportback – 70 cars.
The agency’s experts noted that in general the line of electric cars purchased in Russia has expanded: in 2022 it included more than 50 different models, and a year ago there were less than 20 options.
The increase is called temporary and is associated with preferential “customs clearance”, which operated in the country until December 31, 2021. That is, now the electric cars which were imported to the Russian Federation at the end of last year find the owners. The growth is also against the background of the general decline of the Russian car market.
Most often, electric cars are bought by residents of Moscow (434 units) and the Moscow region (115 units), as well as St. Petersburg (105 units) – this is 60% of the total number of purchased cars during the study period. The Krasnodar Territory is in the lead among the regions, where 79 electric cars were bought.
